Villages flooded by Ukraine to halt the Russian advance on Kyiv last year is still reeling from the move. Authorities sacrificed the hamlet of Demydiv, 35 km (22 miles) north of Kyiv, last February by blowing up a nearby dam. The last-ditch effort helped spare the capital a Russian takeover, but concerns remain over clean-up efforts.
