On August 9, South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi met in the eastern port city of Qingdao in China. Both the nations pledged to develop closer relations and maintain stable industrial supply chains. According to Yonhap News Agency, China called on South Korea to “maintain independence and self-reliance”. This comes at a time of deepening rivalry between the US and China over tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
