The US claims that Russia is gaining advantage of divisions across northern Syria as its NATO ally Turkey launched an offensive. Turkey recently launched a new offensive against the Kurdish-led, Pentagon-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). While the US supports the SDF in Syria’s ongoing civil war, Russia has thrown its weight behind President Bashar Al-Assad’s regime. Pentagon added that Russia has been capitalising on internal divisions to prop up the Assad regime. The divisions have been particularly pronounced in recent weeks as Turkey launched “Operation Claw-Sword”. The US, which also considers the PKK to be a terrorist organization, has declined to verify attribution for the bombing. Russia also has concerns regarding Ankara’s operations as Turkey supports rebels seeking to topple Assad’s regime.’
