After more than 10 months of the war in Ukraine, military strategists are analysing Putin’s position in the conflict. Retired US General Barry McCaffrey claims that Putin can’t accomplish his top objectives in Ukraine, nor can he back out from the war. The retired four star general said that Putin can’t draw back on the battlefield because his “personal survival” is at stake. Political scientist Yuri Zhukov said that Putin’s current inability to achieve his goals may change in the future. Putin has recently signalled that he is willing to end the conflict, using the word “war” for the first time ever. However, the Russian President said that this would inevitably involve a diplomatic solution. Will Putin hold talks with Zelensky to end the war?
