Two Russian maritime patrol fighter jets were detected and tracked by the North American Aerospace Command (NORAD). The jets were “positively identified” entering and operating within the Alaskan and Canadian Air Defense Identification Zones. However, NORAD said it did not see the September 11 incident as a “threat or provocation”.
