While the world’s attention has been focused on Ukraine, another long-standing territorial dispute has been escalating between Japan & Russia. Russia test-fired Kalibr cruise missiles from its submarines in the Sea of Japan on April 14. Japan’s government said that it is closely watching the military activities by Russia in the Sea of Japan. The missile tests come a day after the US and Japan announced joint naval exercises in the Sea of Japan. Moscow’s military activities began after Russia abandoned its diplomatic efforts to sign a peace deal to end wartime hostilities with Japan.
