Putin Expands War Goals Beyond Donbas

Ukraine War

Russia’s FM Sergei Lavrov has said the objectives of Moscow’s “special military operation” in Ukraine have widened beyond Donbas. Lavrov said that Russia was also now focused on the regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, as per state media. Moscow-backed administration in Kherson has accused Kyiv of destroying a strategically important bridge in the region. Authorities of the so-called Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) will be creating an 18-person embassy in Russia, according to TASS. The European Union has set out emergency plans to reduce its gas use amid fears Russia could cut off its supply in winter. The US has said it will send four additional high mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS) to Ukraine.
