Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree recognising parts of eastern Ukraine as independent entities. Vladimir Putin has ordered his military to enter the Russian-controlled areas of southeast Ukraine. Putin said that Russia has sent its troops in the region for “maintaining peace”. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky gave a televised address ruling out any territorial concessions. The United States said it will impose sanctions on Moscow following an initially cautious response to Putin’s move.
