Killed in Action

Sgt. Millard Odom was killed in action on Nov. 20, 1943 during World War II at the Battle of Tarawa. Odom was a member of Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 1st Marine Division.

After retrieving his remains, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency recovered Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) samples on August 2, 2018, and Odom’s DNA was a match with his sister and his niece.

Odom is laid to rest in Miramar National Cemetery at San Diego, Calif., Nov. 20. And being buried with full honors after his remains were found 76 years later..
