This short newsreel, produced for the home market, shows Japanese attacks on Australia, and the Battle of Coral Sea and Midway that turned the tide of the Pacific War. Includes footage of Allied transports headed for Australia, where they will be under command of Gen. Douglas MacArthur. An Douglas A-26 bomber is seen making a crash landing after its gear fails to extend. The Australian cities of Port Moresby and Darwin come under Japanese attack from the air. Footage of the Battle of Coral Sea includes shots of the aircraft carrier USS Lexington (CV-2) on fire and sinking after being hit by Japanese bombs. The film also includes footage of the aircraft carriers USS Yorktown, USS Saratoga, USS Enterprise and other warships, and shots of a Japanese cruiser (possibly Chickuma or Mikuma) on fire after the Battle of Midway.
