Leopard 2: Why a Mirror on the Gun Barrel?

Why does the Leopard 2 have a mirror on its gun barrel? In this video I talk with a former Leopard 2 gunner why there is a mirror at the end of the Leopard 2 barrel (also on the Leopard 1, although at a different position). This mirror is called “Feldjustieranlage” (field adjustment system/device).
