Israeli fighter jets launched a series of airstrikes near the Syrian capital of Damascus and the city of Tartus, killing at least 3 soldiers. The strikes near Damascus reportedly hit outposts run by Lebanon’s pro-Iranian Hezbollah group. The Israeli strikes hit targets close to the Russian navy’s only Mediterranean base, in the Tartus port, where Russian warships are docked. Russia’s major Hmeimim air base is also in the nearby Latakia province. Israel-Russia ties in Syria facing ripples of Ukraine war? Are strikes near Russian bases a message to Putin?
