Russian forces have been accused of using anti-personnel ‘butterfly’ mines in Ukraine. The PMF-1 mines have been internationally banned since 1997. Military expert, Carlo Masala, said butterfly mines can unleash “terror against the civilian population”. The shape of a butterfly mine resembles a butterfly with two small wings that are used to slow down its fall.
