Worlds BIGGEST WW2 Armoured Convoy! Armour and Embarkation 2026
Over 100 original WW2 military vehicles rolling through Dorset for this year’s Armour and Embarkation — genuinely one of the biggest events of its kind in Europe, and I went along to follow the convoy through Dorchester and out to the old D-Day marshalling camp at Broadmayne.
The convoy actually retraces the routes the real embarkation convoys took back in 1944, when Dorset was one of the key staging areas for the whole Normandy build-up. Tanks, half-tracks, jeeps, all of it moving through the same lanes those vehicles used 80-odd years ago on their way to the coast.
In this one you’ll see Sherman tanks, half-tracks, jeeps and a load of other military vehicles, all privately owned and kept running by individual collectors who put a huge amount of work into this every two years.
The convoy also called in at the Tank Museum at Bovington, and the Dorset town of Dorchester one day one to be greeted by thousands of locals as Brewery Square!
