The fall of Stalingrad marked a turning point in World War II—and also in the life of one man: Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus. Caught between blind obedience and mere survival, his surrender to the Red Army did not only seal the fate of the German VI Army—it shattered the myth of the Führer’s infallibility. He refused suicide, the regime’s last command, and in so doing defied the Nazi code of honour. As a POW he became a political instrument for the Soviets: from commander of the Eastern Front to public voice against Nazism. His statements shook the Nazi hierarchy and cost him his moral exile. This documentary explores the fate of the man who survived the Reich’s greatest defeat, the price he paid for not dying at Stalingrad, and the truths he revealed before vanishing from history.
