The Marine Corps is fundamentally reshaping maritime conflict by turning the shore into a lethal barrier for enemy warships. At the heart of this transformation is the Navy-Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System, or NMESIS. This unmanned, autonomous launcher is built on a JLTV chassis and carries two Naval Strike Missiles capable of sinking targets over one hundred miles away. By operating from hidden coastal positions and remote islands, NMESIS allows small teams of Marines to hold entire naval fleets at risk without ever leaving land. This capability was recently showcased during Exercise Balikatan twenty twenty-six, where launchers were rapidly deployed to the Batanes Islands to secure strategic maritime chokepoints. The message is clear: the modern Marine Corps is no longer just an amphibious force; it is a primary architect of sea control.
