Air tension above Northern Europe has officially spiked to its highest level since the expansion of the alliance. On June twelve, twenty twenty-six, the Swedish Air Force’s quick reaction alert force was forced to execute two back-to-back emergency combat scrambles. Flying out in the northern and southern sectors of the highly contested Baltic Sea, two pairs of advanced Swedish JAS thirty-nine Gripen fighter jets pushed their engines to intercept a hostile strike formation moving dangerously close to sovereign borders. The intruding Russian warplanes were identified as a heavy supersonic Su-twenty-four Fencer bomber and an armed Su-thirty-four Fullback fighter-bomber. While Swedish airspace was ultimately not violated, Stockholm labeled the coordinated maneuvers a highly serious, repeated pattern of Russian provocation intended to explicitly test regional air defenses.
