The Germans had never seen anything like her.
Over 670 feet from bow to stern, stacked with seven turrets, each named after a day of the week, and armed with fourteen 12-inch guns. She was HMS Agincourt, a dreadnought so extreme it terrified even her own crew.
Rumor had it she was cursed, and that firing a full broadside would tear her in half. No one had ever dared to test the myth, but as the enemy ship closed in, Agincourt had no choice.
All guns went out all at once. Aboard the nearby HMS Galatea, a sailor watching from the deck said: “[the explosion] lifted us out of the water (…) I felt as if my head was blown off.”
Agincourt disappeared behind a cloud of fire and smoke. For a moment, no one could tell if the curse had turned out to be true…
