In early 1945, Hitler’s commando leader Otto Skorzeny was detailed by Himmler to create and hold a bridgehead over the Oder River, Germany’s last water barrier before Berlin as Himmler planned to use it to launch a counter-offensive and stop the Soviets. This was the Schwedt Bridgehead and this is its story.
