Over the course of nearly two years, from October 2022 to October 2024, Ukrainian forces stationed in the city of Vuhledar waged a seemingly unending battle against invading Russian forces. In what would eventually come to be known as the Battle of Vuhledar, thousands would be killed, wounded or go missing, as armoured trucks, tanks and infantry sought to overpower the opposition on either side.
Ukrainian commanders would dub the Battle of Vuhledar as the largest tank battle of the Russo-Ukrainian War to date – they certainly held their own against Russian forces for a long while, and the surrounding region actually changed hands at multiple key points across the battle’s duration. But how did the key events of this great battle play out?
