“Prevent Senseless Bloodshed”: Russian Leaflets Urge Ukrainian Troops to Surrender | APT

Russian drones dropped leaflets over Ukrainian positions near Kupyansk this week, urging troops to surrender and “prevent senseless bloodshed.” The message came just hours before President Vladimir Putin announced that Ukrainian forces had been encircled in Kupyansk and Krasnoarmeysk — and offered to let foreign and Ukrainian journalists “see with their own eyes” the situation inside the pockets.

At Moscow’s Mandryka Military Hospital, Putin said Russia would pause operations to allow media access but warned Kyiv not to provoke or endanger reporters. The campaign, backed by the Russian General Staff, signals a shift in Moscow’s strategy — using both psychological and media pressure to force decisions from Ukraine’s leadership over trapped brigades.

Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov detailed the scale of the encirclements: 31 Ukrainian battalions near Krasnoarmeysk and 18 near Kupyansk, including elite airborne and mechanised units.
