Lightning Carrier • How the USS Wasp Became a Stealth Powerhouse

The silhouette of the U.S.S. Wasp has changed. No longer just a platform for amphibious landings, it has evolved into a ‘Lightning Carrier.’ By embarking a full squadron of F-35B Lightning Two stealth fighters, the Wasp provides the Navy with fifth-generation air superiority without needing a full-sized supercarrier. The F-35B is the world’s only supersonic, stealth, short-takeoff and vertical-landing fighter. This means it can operate from shorter decks and even damaged runways, bringing high-end stealth and sensor fusion to the very edge of the conflict. In the narrow, contested waters of the Strait, the Lightning Carrier is the ultimate ‘High-Low’ play: a mobile, invisible airfield that the enemy simply cannot track.
