July 1945: There are more people on foot than cars on the Berlin Autobahn (Avus). Some Berliners return to the completely destroyed city with only the bare necessities. But many of them want to head west as quickly as possible. Even then, some have the right instinct not to want to be filmed.
Change of scene: Despite everything, people enjoy the summer at the Wannsee beach, but in the presence of foreign soldiers.
Footage from August shows the destroyed Potsdam City Palace. Russian soldiers march through the streets. The Four-Power Conference takes place here.
At the end we see George Stevens, Major of the United States Army Signal Corps, and head of the SFP 186 film project.
