First wave of Iranian ballistic missiles was launched toward Israel with Iranian state television announcing retaliation against Jerusalem.
Earlier in the day, Israel and the United States launched a joint attack against Iran, as negotiations on the Iranian nuclear programme failed to yield a concrete outcome.
Loud explosions were heard in Iran’s capital, Tehran, on Saturday morning, as Israel announced it launched preemptive strikes, with the Middle East plunging into a renewed military conflict.
“The State of Israel launched a pre-emptive attack against Iran to remove threats to the State of Israel,” Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz said.
Moreover, sirens were sounded in Tel Aviv as Israel warned of the “possibility of missiles”.
“In the last few minutes, sirens were sounded all throughout Israel, with an advance instruction alert directly to cellular devices to stay within proximity to protected spaces. This is a proactive alert to prepare the public for the possibility of missiles being launched toward the State of Israel. The IDF emphasizes that the public is requested to stay in proximity to protected spaces,” the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement.
A state of emergency has been declared in Israel.
