At 06:47 local in the eastern Persian Gulf, the IRGC’s Lavan Island electronic warfare facility activated a GPS spoofing architecture designed to steer USS Paul Hamilton (DDG-60) toward the Lavan Island shoals — no missiles, no drones, just false position data replacing the authentic GPS signal. The AN/WSN-7 inertial navigation system flagged a 340-meter discrepancy at 06:47:04 local — 4.1 seconds after activation. The navigator identified the spoofing signature in under 20 seconds. Paul Hamilton switched to WSN-7-only navigation at 06:49:22 local and began an eastward deviation. The spoof ran for 15 minutes 56 more seconds against a ship that had stopped using it.
SLQ-32 collected the full emission profile: GPS code structure, power output, frequency offset, angle of arrival — complete technical characterization of a domestic Iranian spoofing system never previously collected at operational parameters. E-2D established the transmitter grid reference to 80-meter accuracy. The technical officer’s 23-second encrypted post-failure call to Bandar Abbas: also collected.
US cost: ~$57,000. IRGC facility investment: ~$8–12M. Detection time: 4.1 seconds. 14 months of development, characterized in under 5. The transmitter is now in the strike planning database.
