During the German retreat on the Eastern Front in 1943, the area around Kiev became the scene of some of the most chaotic and brutal fighting of the war. This testimony follows the experience of a German machine gun crew tasked with covering the withdrawal of their forces under constant pressure from the advancing Red Army.
