In the crowded waters of the Persian Gulf, a new type of hunter has emerged—one that requires no crew and never sleeps. This is the Ghost Fleet Overlord program. These Large Unmanned Surface Vessels, or L-U-S-Vs, are designed to operate autonomously for thousands of miles, serving as mobile sensor nodes and missile magazines for the manned fleet. By integrating these robot ships into a distributed maritime operations framework, the U.S. Navy can project power across a much wider area. They aren’t just drones; they are fully capable warships that can navigate complex international shipping lanes and respond to threats in real-time, all while keeping our sailors out of the direct line of fire.
