Air defences have been activated, and explosions are heard in the capital, Tehran. Iranian officials report hearing explosions in the vicinity of Qeshm Island and the port city of Bandar Abbas. These developments follow earlier reports by state television that the Iranian military fired missiles at what it calls, quote, ‘the enemy’s aggressive units’ in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran is saying its response comes after the US military fired on and disabled the Iranian-flagged Hasna tanker on Wednesday.
