Unmanned Naval Warfare • NATO vs. Russia in the Black Sea

For the first time in history, a conflict has proven that naval dominance can be shattered without launching a single manned warship. This is the new reality of the Black Sea. Russia’s Black Sea Fleet—armed with frigates, submarines, and cruise missiles—was supposed to own the maritime domain. Instead, Ukraine, a nation with virtually no navy, has imposed sea denial on a naval superpower using cheap, remote-piloted weapons. We are witnessing the end of an era, driven by the ultimate asymmetric weapon: the Unmanned Surface Vessel, or USV.
