How A Neck Shooting Execution Worked

One of the most terrifying execution methods of World War 2 was neck shooting. This was known in German as the Genickschuss, and in this the executioners placed their weapon against the neck and fired. The executioners shot hundreds of thousands of victims using this method, and it was dehumanising. But how did this work?
