The Battle of the Scheldt 1944: WW2’s Forgotten Turning Point | Full Documentary

October 1944 – With Allied forces advancing deep into Western Europe, a major supply crisis threatens to halt their momentum. Although the port of Antwerp was liberated on September 4, it remains unusable while the Scheldt Estuary – its vital link to the sea – is under German control. On October 2, Canadian troops begin a brutal, month-long campaign to clear the estuary. Fighting through flooded terrain, thick mud, and heavily fortified positions, they endure one of the most grueling operations of the war. The Battle of the Scheldt ends on November 8, reopening Allied supply lines and enabling the final push toward Germany. Without this overlooked victory, the liberation of Europe might have stalled entirely.
